The School Dance Checklist
By BabyZone and ParentZone Editors
Helping your child get ready for a big dance can be both exciting and a little stressful. To help you and your teen get organized, try our handy checklist!
| Find a date! | Does your daughter or son have someone in mind that they'd like to ask? Be ready to offer support and tips if your child is looking for help popping the question . . . or dealing with a rejection. |
| Find out what the "stag" policy is at your teen's school | Some schools frown on teens attending formal dances without dates. And some don't have any problems with kids going en masse. Find out what the status is at your child's school. |
| Go dress shopping! | Dress shopping can be a great way for dad and daughter or mom and daughter (or all three of you) to bond! Find out what your daughter is looking for, help her set a budget, and schedule a shopping date. |
| Don't forget about shoes! | If your daughter is attending a formal, she may wish to have shoes dyed to match her dress. Help your son remember to polish his dress shoes and make sure they fit well. |
| Secure a hair stylist (or figure out how to do it at home!) | No matter if you have a daughter or son, chances are your teen will enjoy having his or her hair cut and styled (or even a good, old-fashioned shave!) before the big dance. |
| Rent a tux or suit | Trying on suits and tuxes can be daunting for a young man. Mom and/or Dad, this is a nice opportunity for you to bond with your growing boy. Schedule an outing and enjoy! |
| Order a corsage or boutonnière | Who doesn't love flowers? If your teen is going to a formal, help him or her locate a florist within their budget and order an appropriate arrangement for their dance date. |
